The days get shorter, the air colder, and the monsters come out to prey this time of year, so be on guard. Zombies, vampires, werewolves and Sarah Palin–they’re all harbingers of doom and gloom, and you’re bound to see their faces around every corner, at least for a couple of more weeks. But rather than hiding in a corner and waiting for them to all go away, it’d be best to face these beasts head on, which you can do until the end of the month at the Dallas Scaregrounds (2001 Irving Blvd.). This is their 13th year of scaring the shit out of everyone in town, and for such an anniversary, they’re pulling out all the stops with their 23,000-square-foot “facility of fear.” Brush up on your urban legends, monster lore and watch all the zombie movies that you can find as you muster up enough strength to contend with the ScareGrounds. With three haunted houses to explore (The Necrotorium, The Terrortorium, and The Hallucinatorium in 3D) you can face your fears this Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., with additional hours through November 1. Admission is $20, which gets you into all three haunted houses as well as the festival grounds. Call 214-346-2111 or visit dallasscaregrounds.com.
Fridays-Sundays; Oct. 23-26; Oct. 29-Nov. 1. Starts: Oct. 10. Continues through Nov. 1, 2008
