Kids will believe anything. “Yes, a watermelon will grow in your belly if you eat the seeds,” and “Women with black hair and crooked noses are witches.” So is the story of Miss Nelson is Missing!, a classic children’s book about a long-suffering schoolteacher who has finally had it with her classroom of rowdy kids. The next day, she poses as a substitute, Viola Swamp, in a Wicked-Witch-of-the-West type getup and personality to match, who rules with an iron fist and loads on the homework. When Miss Nelson finally “returns,” the kids sing her praises like little angels. Genius. Dallas Children’s Theater will bring the book to life at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts on weekends from Friday to October 24. Tickets are $12 to $23, and kids ages five and up are welcome.
