We know what jokes you non-gingers are going to make, so let’s be clear about the entertainment you won’t find at this weekend’s North Texas Irish Festival. Don’t show up to Fair Park’s Centennial and Automobile Buildings with a net expecting to catch leprechauns and swipe their gold—they’re not comin’. Don’t bring boxes of Lucky Charms, IRA-style explosives or jugs of Irish whiskey, and please don’t be an idiot and mix up countries, either. The Braveheart and Austin Powers costumes are embarrassing for all involved. Instead, come with a healthy appetite for Irish grub, traditional dancing and stories from multigenerational Irish families in the metroplex. And if live Celtic music is what you want, then we question your taste but claim the stuff in droves at the NTIF with performers like Threadneedle Street, the Trinity River Whalers, Ed Miller and Brothers 3. Leave your misconceptions at home, put on your sunscreen, wear some outdated Irish fashions and have a gay ol’ time. Festival hours are 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. One-day passes are $10 to $15; three-day passes are $30.
