As internet-based forms of communication gain popular traction, they naturally find their way into contemporary art’s dialogue. It’s technological symbiosis.
While they’ve been around for 25 years, just in the last few GIFs have dominated our screens and galleries. The avalanche of choppy motion is versatile and fun. It can express a moving landscape, relay a short eruption of ideas or address technology’s influence in modern life.
To work with this subversively punchy medium, you’ve got to learn how to use it. Tonight, artists can do exactly that at a free .gif Workshop. It’s happening at the Goss-Michael Foundation and is being led by Chicago-based mixed media artists Alfredo Salazar-Caro. Check out his work here.
