It’s always tough for us to make sense of athletic fund-raisers for debilitating diseases; in the case of Saturday’s Positive Spin for ALS Bike Tour, the difference between a two-day bicycle ride through the metroplex and the cause it raises money for, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is pretty dramatic. But the phrase “positive spin” isn’t meant to distract from the crippling neurological effects of ALS; rather, it’s a chance for the more capable to support research on a widespread affliction whose causes—and solutions—are still far from solved. Riders begin at Bicycles Inc., 5125 Granbury Road in Fort Worth, at 7 a.m. Massages, meals and overnight accommodations come with the $40 registration and $150 minimum fund-raising pledge.
