You don’t know him, but he’s your brother. More specifically, he’s your blue-eyed soul brother. And who are you kidding? You do know him. For more than 30 years Michael McDonald has been drizzling his distinctive baritone smoothness all over the music world like so much hot fudge; backing Steely Dan, fronting the Doobie Brothers and enjoying a successful solo career highlighted by hit singles and memorable collaborations with a wide spectrum of artists, from Patti Labelle and Willie Nelson to actor Jeff Bridges and South Park‘s Trey Parker. Whether he’s influencing hip-hop by being sampled by Warren G and Jadakiss, throwing back to his own influences with a pair of Motown tribute albums or being referenced in less than flattering fashion in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, McDonald’s extensive pop presence and R&B reverence cannot be denied. Unless you are not familiar with Michael McDonald, often mistaking him for a younger, less cosmetically enhanced Kenny Rogers, then you probably could deny his presence and reverence. In which case, you don’t know him. But he is your brother. And like “Yah Mo” he will “B There.” Michael McDonald takes it to the streets 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Tickets run from $40 to $95.
