I had my first “aha” moment in math class when I made a realization about the relationship between parts and wholes. Suddenly the visual and the mathematical merged for me, and it changed my perspective on my homework. I was no longer laboring through addition and multiplication of fractions — I was reassembling pieces into something bigger. I was trying to make something whole. Also, I was trying to pull off a “C.” But visualizing math this way has greater rewards than a letter grade, as you’ll see during curator George Fowler’s Fractal Logic 2. Dozens of works from 25 local painters, sculptors and photographers will be on display, and each belongs to a larger, cohesive piece. Sure, you can buy the whole dang assemblage — but if you don’t have that kind of scratch, the individual pieces look mighty fine on their own. Divide or multiply the pieces in any way you see fit; once you get them home, they’ll be whole in their own special way. Calculate the possibilities at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Kettle Art (2650-B Main St.). Featured artists include Cabe Booth, Theresa Mangum, Dusty Morre, Jennifer Portz, Richard Ross and many more.
