People talking about the Russians are usually trying to make a Tolstoy reference, or warning us that after 60-odd years of pretending, the big old bear is finally invading our shining shores to turn us all communist. But be not afeared of these Russians, for in its opening weekend, the Texas Ballet Theater is merely bringing a taste of Russia to the boards of Bass Hall. The Russian Masters, an evening of both contemporary and classical ballet, features the works of acclaimed choreographers Michel Fokine, Alexander Borodin and the guy we salute every Nutcracker-y Christmas, George Balanchine. This is the type of dance that can set the stage on fire–should be quite a blaze considering how the Russians enjoy their vodka. Bass Hall is located at Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth.
