I love the original Rocky and Rocky II — things get weird around Rocky III and anything beyond that is just an unwatchable collection of montages with robot sidekicks and no Burgess Meredith.

But that original film’s focus on the budding love between homely, but kind Adrian and the sweetly knuckleheaded Italian Stallion has never let me down. It’s one of those damn-near perfect flicks, so I was giddy to see that Texas Theatre is not only showing it, but doing so on 35mm. Awesome.

Keep your eyes on them in the next few weeks: Texas Theatre’s organizers are throwing out some other favorites, like Hustle and Flow and Do The Right Thing (In honor of Black History Month).

$30,000

There’s also an evening with Don Hertzfeldt (think squiggly quicky Rejected) who’s presenting a couple classics and his new short film (his longest to date, clocking in at 23 minutes) It’s Such a Beautiful Day on February 17.

But four glorious nights this week are Rocky nights and we’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away. Hit the jump to see how to win.

Shoot me an email at Jamie.Laughlin@dallasobserver.com with the words “Rocky tickets” as the title. I’ll be picking the winners randomly at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, and announcing the winners between 4 and 5 p.m.

Good luck, and while you’re at it why don’t you go ahead and like us on Facebook? We like to be liked.
