The fall dance season is starting off with “the best dance festival ever!” says arts patron and Dallas DanceFest producer Gayle Halperin. Back after nearly 10 years, the Dallas DanceFest will definitely give a lay of the Dallas dance land, but we’ll have to see if it’s actually the best dance festival ever. It starts off with a strong effort with performances by local emerging companies, Avant Chamber Ballet, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance and Ewert & Company, and features tap group Rhythmic Souls. Favorites Dallas Black Dance Theatre, DBDT II, and the Bruce Wood Dance Project will also perform — with BWDP performing twice, once at the Fest and then again during the annual Dance Council of North Texas Honors. These companies, among others, will be joined by out-of-towners Chado Danse and MET Dance, whose presence just might up the dance game here. The festival starts at 8 p.m. Friday and runs through August 31 at Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St.. Tickets will cost you $25-$45; $100 VIP and $15 student rush tickets also available.
