Fairy tales seriously screwed us up–the amount of disappointment and cynicism in our lives is directly related to the amount of Mother Goose we were exposed to growing up. We were all taught that ugly ducklings can grow up to be beautiful swans, frogs can become princes and poisoned apples can be combated with a simple kiss–lies, the whole lot of them! But Jon Scieszka, author of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, is here to give the next generation the straight dope about the real ways of fairyland, and the truth-tellers at Casa Mañana Children’s Playhouse (3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth) are making it even easier to give your kids a lesson in reality with their stage production of Scieszka’s award-winning book titled The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fair(l)y (Stoopid) Tales. Spend your day schooling the kids at the show’s final performance Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $17. Call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 24. Continues through Nov. 9, 2008
