The bond between a mother and daughter runs deep, but what if the mother hasn’t seen her daughter for years and only recently reconnects with her after something tragic has occurred? That’s the case for Beatriz and her teenage daughter Olivia, central figures in 26 Miles, a comedy by playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes. When Olivia contacts her estranged mother and tells her of her suicide attempt, Beatriz (Christina Vela) leaves her new husband, Manuel (Christopher Carlos), and abducts her daughter in the middle of the night for a cross-country road trip. Mother and daughter reconnect as they discuss relationships and love, but the path to reconnecting is bumpy. Allie Donnelly, a junior at Booker T. Washington, makes her stage debut as Olivia in Kitchen Dog Theater’s production of 26 Miles, premiering at 8 p.m. Friday at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, 3120 McKinney Ave. Additional performances are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday through December 11, and there is no performance on Thanksgiving Day. Tickets are $15 to $30, $10 to $20 for seniors and students with ID. Call 214-953-1055 or visit kitchendogtheater.org for tickets and more information.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 11. Continues through Dec. 11, 2011
