The Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Musical Director Jaap van Zweden is a powerhouse. He was recently named Musical America Conductor of the Year 2012 — a first for our fair city. While it was advertised that Mayor Mike Rawlings and “other surprise Dallas-area notables” would gather to celebrate his accolade at last weekend’s concerts, everyone was surprised to enjoy a classic Big Guy/Little Guy moment when Dirk Nowitzki announced Jaap van Zweden to the stage.
