4 p.m. (Magnolia 4) LUV — This feature takes you to Baltimore in a tale of growing-up fast. It stars Common as an uncle fresh out of prison who wants to teach his nephew lessons in manhood. But a sordid past has a tendency to catch back up to a soul, and now 11-year old Woody is along for the ride. or 4:30 p.m. (Magnolia 5) No Ashes No Phoenix — This documentary hits the court with Germany’s Phoenix Hagen basketball team. The group wants equal footing and a shot at victory so they pull in a star player named Michael Jordan (different guy). He might bring the dunks, but he’s also got a polarizing attitude that could do more harm than good for the team.
7:15 p.m. (Angelika 7) Tchoupitoulas — New Orleans has a magical swamp energy that soaks in through your senses: the smell of fried seafood, ships’ horns blowing in the river and eye candy everywhere. This documentary spends one night in the French Quarter, and siphons every last drop of that swamp magic. or 7:30 p.m. (Magnolia 5) The Other Dream Team — This Cool Runnings meets basketball doc tells the story of Lithuania’s battle against Germany in the 1992 Olympics. Their coach? Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson.
10:30 p.m. (Magnolia 5) Secrets, Objects — This Korean feature gets racy in the classroom with a generation-jumping romance. A very unhappily married sociology prof takes research assistance (that’s what we call it now, ladies) from a dashing and much younger man.
