For 25 years, local do-gooders Big Thought have been expanding the minds (and vocabularies) of our area kids with several educational programs and initiatives, including Thriving Minds and DaVerse Lounge. If you haven’t had a chance to see this program in action, now’s the time, as the music, art and poetry showcase is upon us. Hosted by founder (and Observer MasterMind finalist) Will Richey, this edition of DaVerse Lounge will bring to the stage big-name poetry stars like Joaquin Zihuatanejo, Will Power and Natasha Carrizosa, as well as some DaVerse Lounge All Stars, Big Thought Future Leader graduates and a select list of DISD middle and high school students. In addition to all-original poetry (accompanied by house band Melody Memory), there will be interactive art stations by Art.Love.Magic. and scratch DJ workshops with DJ Killtron. Celebrate eight years of DaVerse Lounge with the voices of the next generation at 7 p.m. Friday at Life in Deep Ellum (2803 Taylor St.). The event is free and open to the public.
