Last time we saw Kathy Griffin, she was doing stand-up in the Meyerson. It was cramped and strange and some of the people (possibly Meyerson regulars) were nowhere near prepared for her brand of comedy. And by brand of comedy we mean loud — especially given the acoustics of that place — brash, trash-talking, foul-mouthed, ladybiz-referencing, celebrity-skewering, truth-telling comedy. In fairness, she can prove to be a polarizing figure — some folks don’t subscribe to the Griffin, to her prolific Bravo comedy specials and self-deprecating reality shtick, but we’re pretty sure that’s because they’re just scared of the Strong Black Woman, Celebrity Mole and Tired Hooker who is 50 & Not Pregnant and nominated for a Grammy with the likes of Louis CK and Patton Oswalt. Either that, or they didn’t much care for that guest spot she had on Law & Order: SVU. One of the two. Doesn’t matter really, because Griffin’s coming to Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie (a much more practical venue for her) Friday, January 6. Doors open at 7, with the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $39.75 to $59.75. Visit ticketmaster.com.
