It’s a throwdown of cosmic proportions, as shocking and powerful as the Rumble in the Jungle, as loaded with metaphor and subtext as Louis v. Schmeling, and as close as this generation will get to a mythic battle between good and evil. It is, of course, the Def Comedy Jam vs. Comic View All-Stars throwdown, 8 p.m. Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. The premise: HBO’s stalwart comics take on the young guns of BET, in a humor battle that’s nothing short of universal in its implications. OK, so maybe it’s not that big a deal, but, jeez, in this day and age, it’s nice to see the likes of David Arnold, Loni Love, Tony Roberts, Esau McGraw and others face off in the same manner as a poetry slam, only minus the pretension and plus some actual laughs. Or maybe the same manner as the recent presidential debates—only this time, the humor is intentional. Have fun, kids, ’cause really, how could someone with a name like “Esau” not be a riot?
