As a species, we’ve made a lot of adaptations so we can deal with summer. Take the sno-cone, for example, and cut-off shorts and “Bachelorette in Paradise.” And while these things are all pretty fantastic (well, most of these things), they cannot ever equal the greatness of a pool on a stifling hot Texas day. Even more fantastic? Co-opting a dumpster (minus all things dumpster-y, mind you), and filling it with four feet and some inches of crystal blue water. This innovation is brought to you by the beautiful dreamers with the Design District Market at the Dallas Contemporary, 161 Glass Street, who have rounded up a cool wave of summer fun from noon – 8 p.m. Saturday. Stay chill in the air-conditioned confines of the art space as you browse through local vendors plying their vintage wares, artisan goods, jewelry and clothing. Wash down food truck cuisine with cold (and free!) adult beverages courtesy of Ben E. Keith distributors. And catch live music as you dumpster-dip (because no diving, obviously) in a beautifully revamped, tricked-out and chlorinated trash receptacle. All festivities are free; visit dallascontemporary.org/ddmarket for details.
