“New media art” is sometimes used as a catch-all phrase for anything from computer-aided graphic design to robotics that blip, beep and animate. Los Angeles-based Petra Cortright’s work is somewhere in between: taking elements of more traditional art and adding graphic elements, like clown noses or cartoon tears, that change the context and the viewer’s perception. She shows new work with Milwaukee-based painter Peter Barrickman at the And/Or Gallery through January 17. View the exhibition from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays at the gallery, 4221 Bryan St. Admission is free. Call 214-824-2442 or visit andorgallery.com.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 5-8 p.m. Starts: Dec. 26. Continues through Jan. 17, 2008
