If you ever played Mouse Trap as a child, then you know just how frustrating the supposedly fun board game could be. First, you open the box and find all the pieces. Then, you attempt to follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the Rube Goldberg nightmare and capture the mouse. Then, inevitably, one of the flimsy plastic pieces breaks and the whole endeavor is ruined, leaving the box to gather dust in the garage alongside your Nintendo Power Pad and half-deflated Pogo Ball. You have to admit, a theatrical rendition of this nonsense would make for a pretty entertaining stage show, but alas, The Mousetrap as brought to the stage by the Garland Civic Theatre is another animal altogether. Written by the legendary Agatha Christie, the play tells the story of a mountain cottage full of travelers, snowbound and dying one by one–not from frostbite, but from murrrder. Catch The Mousetrap at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through February 13 at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. in Garland.
