Released in 1920, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is one of the earliest and most influential of all the German Expressionist horror films. The psychological shocker’s chilling visuals, sharp contrast of light and shadows, and ending twist have been hugely influential on generations of filmmakers from Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock to Tim Burton and Robert Rodriguez. In the University Theatre, The University of Texas at Dallas is presenting a multi-media adaptation of Dr. Caligari. With its sinister somnambulist, insane asylum and serial killings, the play is recommended for those over the age of 13. Admission is free, and for more information visit ah.utdallas.edu.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 & 9 p.m. Starts: Nov. 13. Continues through Nov. 22, 2008
