In need of a holiday? Lucky you—because, as the old song goes, life is a cabaret, old chum–and nothing will take you away faster than a singer with a songbook of showstoppers. Also, wine helps. Such is the allure of Cabaret and Cabernet, a decadent escape that doubles as a fundraiser for the Sammons Cabaret Series, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines. The evening starts with a wine tasting featuring a variety of cabernets, and is quickly followed by a variety of cabarets—including Laura Ainsworth, Lynne Cadena, Victor Cager, Teddy Davey, Diana Gale, W.T. Greer, Tony Hakim, Carolyn Lee Jones, and Sara Shelby-Martin, each performing one song, and all ably backed by The Larry Petty Piano Trio. Your table’s waiting: tickets are $25 for individuals, $150 for groups of 6, or $200 for groups of 8. Call 214-520-7789 to order, or visit sammonsartcenter.org for more.
