I understand most phobias, like a nice rational fear of snakes or heights or pink-eyed, snow-white bunny rabbits. But I’ll never fathom lepidopterophobia — the fear of butterflies. It’s not that I don’t sympathize with lepidopterophobes like Nicole Kidman. I just don’t get it. For me, the thought of being surrounded by a bunch of flittering butterflies sounds more charming than terrifying. And since butterflies are attracted to sweat, “Summer at the Heard” seems like a great time for The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney to introduce their Native Texas Butterflies exhibit. Inside their new 800-square-foot butterfly house amidst swallowtails, brushfoots and sulphuras, visitors receive an in-depth butterfly education.
