I have a confession to make, and it’s not a good one. Growing up I believed the award-winning playwright Tennessee Williams and the country singer Tennessee Ernie Ford were the same person. I was very relieved when I finally found out Cousin Ernie on I Love Lucy wasn’t behind the plays Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Night of the Iguana, and that the famous writer didn’t sing country and western songs as a night job. Luckily, I get to somewhat redeem myself by attending the WaterTower Theatre’s production of Mr. Williams’ play The Glass Menagerie. This play is supposedly based on Williams’ life and his family’s dysfunction, something we can all probably relate to. To sum it up for you, we have an over-eager mother who is ready for her glass collecting-obsessed daughter to wed, and she asks her overworked son to become the matchmaker for his sister.
