Country/Western connotations sure have taken a sharp turn in the American lexicon. Case in point: If a new downtown nightclub was named “Arkansas,” what would your first assumption be? Yup. When did stories of the open range and blazin’ guns turn into the country’s most blatant camp and gay icons? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but we can’t help but extend our pinkies at Branded, the Western fashion show at the Will Rogers Memorial Center Round Up Inn, 3401 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth, 6 p.m. Friday. Hopefully, the event’s charitable drive will help the stuffy old-school country folk and the kerchief-loving, tight-jeans-wearing crowd get along. Entry starts at $150. Call 817-882-4100.
Fri., Aug. 25, 6 p.m.
