Black Cinematheque Dallas is shining a spotlight on black film. And Marilyn Clark, the organization’s founder, is directing the show. BCD wants to dispel negative images of blacks and replace them with truthful, positive images. It does this by presenting black films by aspiring and accomplished artists from around the world—monthly presentations of documentaries, features, shorts, animation and experimental films by independent African-American filmmakers as well as filmmakers of African descent from all over the world. The goals are noble–BCD wants to encourage and motivate aspiring filmmakers by providing educational workshops, turn children and youth on to filmmaking through media literacy programs targeted at young audiences and support black independent filmmakers by screening and promoting their films. On Friday the BCD will do just that when it presents six shorts by The Sure Shot Guerrilla Film Company at Laughing, Lying & Signifying: The African-American Comedy Film Festival. Showings start at 8 p.m. at the Black Forest Theater, 1920 Martin Luther King Blvd. The lineup will include Guerilla Tactics, The Corporate Negro, Sunday Morning Stripper, J.R.
