A couple of weeks ago, I was working at the day job and something occurred to me. I wanted to leave. And not just to go home–I wanted to leave my pile of work, head west on Interstate 30 and sit in the Ballpark with a hot dog, a beer and Elvis Andrus. I know this urge is probably a product of conditioning via pop culture (thank you, Ferris Bueller), but it’s hard to replicate the feeling you get when you indulge in the Great American Pastime anywhere else. I can’t even really put my finger on it. I get pissed off about $6.50 beers at any other venue, but if you load me up with badly poured Bud Light at the Ballpark and send me out to watch Ian Kinsler work second base, I’m in. And I’m happy. The little Cinderella story the Rangers have going on this season doesn’t hurt either: Watching Elvis Andrus, Josh Hamilton, Brandon Boggs, Chris Davis and everyone else on the roster cycle through really amazing moments as they chase the actual possibility of a playoff appearance has been really, truly fun. Ditch the cubicle a little early to cheer for the can-do Rangers at the Ballpark, 1000 Ballpark Way, during their series against the Oakland A’s Monday through Wednesday.
