When you think “magician,” you probably think of Criss Angel … and then you instantly mutter, “What a douche.” But hopefully after you spend an evening with As We Lie Still, a contemporary musical about — you guessed it — a magician, you’ll think neither of those things. And maybe you’ll even be whistling a new tune. Literally. (Because it’s a musical. Get it?) As We Lie Still is set in 1908 and tells the story of the rise and fall of Avi Sokol. First he’s not famous, then he is famous, he loves his assistant, then he accidentally kills her. You know, pretty standard magician fare. Except it’s totally not!! He kills his assistant!! I’m guessing not with the ol’ quarter-behind-the-ear trick, either. Find out for sure 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Nouveau 47 Theatre in the Magnolia Lounge, 1121 First Ave. All performances are pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $12. Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: June 7. Continues through June 9, 2012
