At first glance, it might seem strange to pair a handbag pop-up with the titillating lightbox installation of U.K. artist and feminist figure Linder (continuing through January 2013). Upon further examination of Susie Straubmueller’s designs, however, it seems much more fitting. The handbags are visually arresting with luxe textures and clean lines. They carry a serious presence — the same can easily be said of Linder’s photographic examinations of gender norms and social constructs. While Straubmueller’s fashion takes are inspired by her own international travels, Linder’s message is universal — but in both cases what you put into or take out of either artist’s pieces is up to you. Fifteen percent of the sales of Straubmueller’s pop-up handbag shop on Wednesday will benefit the Goss-Michael Foundation and its efforts to fund scholarships and art programs for young artists in Dallas and Texas. The Goss-Michael Foundation is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. It is located at 1405 Turtle Creek Blvd. Call 214-696-0555 or visit gossmichaelfoundation.org and susiestraubmueller.com.
