The world’s fascination with Anne Frank, nearly 60 years after her death, can probably be explained by one quote: “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Anne Frank wrote that in her diaries after giving up her childhood to live in hiding from the insidious Nazi occupation. Most of us get cut off in traffic and hate all of humanity for the rest of the day, but this young girl somehow avoided the lure of misanthropy and looked to the good in people despite their terrifying acts. Through the Eyes of a Friend examines Frank’s unwavering optimism, her fear and her day-to-day life from the perspective of her friends. The portrayal combines a lone actress and historical video to create a vivid portrait of Frank and convey an important message of hope and tolerance to children 10 and older. The event takes place at the Jewish Community Center, 7900 Northhaven Road, at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults and may be purchased at jccdallas.org.
