A few artists are arriving from their home, the mountainous region of Tibet nearly 13,000 miles away, to begin a week-long residency in Dallas. The featured artists, Buddhist monks from the Drepung Monastery, will construct a large sand painting throughout the course of the week, a painstaking process that involves making a large work with only the use of colored sand and minerals. While the end result will be beautiful, sand painting can be a strenuous activity; it’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder how they could possibly get close to achieving nirvana while doing so. To celebrate their arrival and the beginning of their residency, the Crow Collection (2010 Flora Street) is hosting an opening-night party, complete with meditation, singing and all the free bubble tea you can drink.
