One might naturally assume that a play called Zero would be the heart-wrenching story of a Japanese kamikaze pilot. It might be hard to stage without a World War II-era plane, however (though it would be really fun to watch an actor play a plane for an hour). Said play could also be a staged rockumentary of a mid-’90s Smashing Pumpkins tour–Corgan did wear a shirt emblazoned with the word “zero” during his Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness period, after all. Then again, a local community theater actor would certainly have trouble conjuring an ego as huge as Cue Ball Corgan’s. That leaves us with only one option, of course—yet another coming-of-age story about an adolescent nothing. A one-man show starring actor Danny O’ Connor, Zero is “an exploration into the many conflicts a man goes through at the brink of leaving his youth.” It also shows “what men really say when women aren’t around,” which I personally consider a violation of the Bros Before Hos Act of 1976. See it Thursday through September 15 at the Addison Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Road. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $15.
