The nation’s oldest and largest video festival, VideoFest, is here. The following four days will showcase films from notable directors, such as Spike Jonez and the founders of the Webby Awards. The Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station, 5321 E. Mockingbird Ln., will serve as headquarters for the event, with other screenings taking place at Hyenas Comedy Club and the Texas Theatre. The theme of this year’s festival is “The Subgenre,” and festival masterminds encourage all aspiring filmmakers to enter their own interpretation of that idea … just as long as it is caught on film. You never know, one of this year’s festival short categories, Texas Filmmakers Showcase, could feature your work next year. Day passes range from $25 to $35, or all-event passes can be purchased for $150. For tickets and more information, call 214-428-8700 or visit videofest.org.
