Who better to kick off the new Comedy at The Kessler series than the first stand-up comic signed to indie label Secretly Canadian, the side-splittingly entertaining comedian Tig Notaro? Since reopening as a venue in 2010, The Kessler, 1230 West Davis St., has played host to lots of concerts, movies, supper clubs and a variety show or two, but Notaro’s appearance launches what Jeff Liles says will be an ongoing series featuring three comedy shows before year’s end, with “hopefully” a show a month by spring 2012. Notaro started off in stand-up comedy before landing several appearances on television shows, most notably as Officer Tig on all three seasons of The Sarah Silverman Program. Notaro has also been featured on her own half-hour special on Comedy Central, as well as performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Benson Interruption. But opening a tour for future label mate Jens Lekman, a Swedish indie singer-songwriter, ultimately led to Secretly Canadian releasing her debut album, Good One, on August 2. Dallas-based comic Mark Agee opens the show. Tickets are $15. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and doors to the main bar open at 6 p.m. For tickets or more information, visit thekessler.org.
