You say you just can’t wait to get your greasy mitts on some of the fine State Fair of Texas fried food? Twelve months is just too long to wait between bouts of funnel cakes and corn dogs? Well, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that for the first time ever, the fair is letting the masses buy tickets to attend the Big Tex Choice Awards ceremony. For $100 – the money goes to a scholarship fund – you can be the envy of all your larger friends and sample along as judges choose the winners from the finalists in this year’s food competition, including battered and fried pies, battered and fried muffins, battered and fried tacos, and a battered and fried loaded baked potato (for the health-conscious) among other treats, such as a funnel-cake flavored ale. The event begins at 10 a.m. in Fair Park. Find tickets at bigtex.com. Oh, and the bad news? Your gallbladder is a goner, dude.
