Longtime Erykah Badu boo Jay Electronica (who, between you and me, may actually have been the mastermind behind The Cannabinoids if one ‘noid’s aside from a couple months back holds any truth) has pretty much been owning the hip-hop blogs of the Internet-o-sphere lately, thanks in no small part to the leak of the oh-so-choice “Exhibit C” track from his upcoming 2010 full-length.
It’s a beast of a track, one sure to please hip-hop heads with a taste for the boom-bap and whatnot–and, honest, I’m not just saying that because his “Call me Jay Electronica–fuck that, call me Jay Elec-Hannukah, Jay Elec-Yamulke” is best Jewish moment of 2010 (score one for the Tribe, yessir). As such, we probably, given Electronica’s local ties and all, should’ve already shouted out the track. Apologies all around.
But at least today we have this excuse: This week, local beatmaker and DC9 favorite Rob Viktum, who’s been a busy man of late, has gone ahead and leaked his own remix of the track, giving the song–as if this even seemed possible at first–an even more authentic hip-hop feel.
