One of the ten bands taking part in tonight’s Rite of Spring Fling concert at Hailey’s, Portland’s Quasi may also well be the elder statesman of the crowded bill.
And the band certainly sounds like it.
Since 1993, the ex-husband-and-wife team of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss has been parlaying its dense, ’60s-style psychedelia and feedback-infused rock into years of critical kudos–17 or so, actually. Bassist Joanna Bolme joined the fray in 2007 and the band has never sounded better. And the band just recently released its eighth album, the super-heavy American Gong. And Quasi was even kind enough to give the readers of DC9 a sneak-peak download of the new album’s lead track, “Repulsion.” Check it out after the jump.
In the meantime, the folks at Spune have been kind enough to offer up two pairs of tickets to the show, which also features The Cave Singers, Cymbals Eat Guitars, The Dutchess & The Duke and others. Be among the first two people to shoot us an email with the words “Yeah Rite” in the subject line and you’re in. Good luck!

Oh, and don’t forget the download…
Kind of reminds me of Dinosaur Jr. a bit. Even though I’m still suffering with a NX35 hangover, I might have to venture back to Denton and catch me a little Quasi tonight.
