The new Texas Music magazine popped up in the snail mail yesterday, and in a joint celebration of both the end of the ’00s and start of the mag’s 10th year in existence, the magazine, like many others before it, went ahead and listed its favorite albums and artists of the decade. And, of course, given the name of the magazine, a few DFW-area products were named to those lists.
On the album side, Dallas artists score as The Dixie Chicks’ Home was named album of the decade. A bit further down the line, the Old 97’s’ Satellite Rides came in at No. 18, proving once and for all maybe, that our own list was crap.
But it’s in the Artists of the Decade feature where DFW-bred talents truly scored. With five of the 10 acts named all born from North Texas origins: The Dixie Chicks, Norah Jones, Kelly Clarkson, Pat Green and Miranda Lambert (who is from Lindale, which is close enough). The other five on the list? Beyonce, Alejandro Escovedo, Spoon, Rodney Crowell and, somewhat surprisingly given this publication, Houston’s Underground Kingz (UGK for life, yo).
