The Bob’s Steak & Chophouse on Lemmon Avenue isn’t the type of establishment that plasters its dining room walls with pictures of famous athletes, which explains how a $3,000 photo of Babe Ruth came to be hanging in the men’s restroom.
When dinner began on Wednesday evening, the Great Bambino was in his normal spot, gazing down upon patrons as they bid farewell to Bob’s signature martinis. By the end of the night, however, he had disappeared.
According to a Dallas police report, he went missing at about 7:30 p.m. when a witness spotted a man take the photo from the bathroom wall, conceal it under his sweater, and walk out of the restaurant.
The cops don’t say why this particular photo was so valuable. Presumably it was autographed, since $3,000 is in the ballpark of what signed pictures of Ruth go for on average.

Tina, the Bob’s employee who answered the phone there this morning, declined to provide additional details. The restaurant is hoping for a phone call from the thief and doesn’t want to scare him off with a news report.
