Emil Svanängen’s Loney, Dear stops through Denton tonight, as Darryl Smyers’ wrote in this week’s paper for what should be a hell of a show–and not just because Loney, Dear’s become something of an Internet and press darling for his recordings over the past few years.
No, this show actually boasts an impressive amount of clout prior to the headliner, thanks to opening sets scheduled for in-house DC9 favorite Matthew and The Arrogant Sea and another impressive Denton act, Sunnybrook.
Sunnybrook is the project of Paul North–the younger, near-identical brother of Joel North, half of the fabulous Mom duo. Also heavy on the found-sound front, Sunnybrook’s what you’d get if you Mom focused less on the experimental realm and more on power of vocal melody. Then again, a good chunk of the latter part of that description stems from the fact that Sunnybrook, unlike Mom, does feature vocals in each of its songs.
Anyway, that’s enough selling on this bill, I think. Onto the rub…
