Let it suffice to say that there are a lot of bands playing at Lochrann’s in Frisco as part of the inaugural two-stage Oysterfest deal going on up there this Saturday. We’d list them all, but, hey, the poster to the right takes care of that much for us.

We will, however, say this: It’s a nice mix of both touring (see: Bowerbirds, Efterklang) and local acts (Rhett Miller, Telegraph Canyon, Analog Rebellion, Whiskey Folk Ramblers, etc.) well worth your time.

But perhaps most interesting about this deal is the fact that it marks yet another effort in a long line of efforts from Frisco to establish itself as a music hub of sorts. In this upcoming week’s issue of the Observer, Daniel Hopkins tackles the city’s efforts and tries to determine if those efforts are worthwhile. And, while he comes to some interesting conclusions, the fact, as is the case with so many instances like this one (Deep Ellum comes to mind) is that we’ll just have to wait before we know for sure.

Still, this weekend’s festivities should provide some insight into the likelihood of anything ever happening up in Frisco by allowing us to answer at least two questions about the city’s music draw. First and foremost: Are there enough interested Frisco residents to make this dream a reality? And, second: How much of the audience on Saturday will consist of Dallasites, Dentonites and other area denizens, who are willing to make the trek to the suburbs for what appears to be a promising show?
