In 2005, after Heartless Bastards, the garage rock band lead by Erika Winnerstrom and her soulful, bluesy voice, caught the attention of Black Keys‘ drummer Patrick Carney, they got the break of a lifetime, the chance to record and release their first album, Stairs and Elevators, for Fat Possum Records. That critically acclaimed debut was then followed up with two albums of equal caliber, 2006’s All This Time and 2009’s The Mountain.

Rightfully, Winnerstrom herself has received a lot of attention for her deep, transcendent vocals, which weave in and out of the music and channel her anger and disappointment — a refreshing change from current trend of female singers with whispery Isobel Campbell-like voices.

We bring all this up, because Winnerstrom and the rest of Heartless Bastards will be playing at Dan’s Silverleaf on Monday night. And, if you’re interested in seeing the show for free, then you’re in luck. Spune Productions, which is bringing this show to Dan’s, has been kind enough to provide us with a free pair of tickets to hand out to one lucky DC9 reader. Maybe even you.
