Last Wednesday night, police say, Justin Jones, 19, was being driven around Dallas in a stolen tan Nissan, occasionally getting out to rob people at gunpoint.
One of the stops, in the early hours of Thursday morning, was at a Chinese food restaurant on Park Lane near Central Expressway. The driver, 17-year-old Tierra Winters, told police she parked the car and watched as Jones walked out of sight toward Central. A few minutes later, she heard a gunshot then saw Jones running toward Sports Authority, where she picked him up.
It was that shot that police say killed Donald Morrow, who reportedly tried to throw a punch when Jones demanded money.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were informed of Jones’ role in the murder by his accomplice in the car jacking. Jones, who has a prior conviction for car theft, is in Dallas County jail and will be charged with capital murder. Both he and WInters have confessed, according to the affidavit.
