We’ve all heard the saying that happy cows produce good cheese. Yeah, maybe. Irritated oysters produce the best pearls, but that’s a bit different. Anyway, in most cases we don’t really know the happiness level of our dairy products.
But sometimes you can straight to the source and see for yourself. And if you live in or around Dallas, you don’t have to go far to go.
Lucky Layla Farms, which supplies fresh butter, drinkable yogurt, handcrafted cheese, dulce de leche and more to grocers like Whole Foods, Central Market and Sprouts, operates on several hundred acres just north of 635, and offers tours of its dairy (and encourages you to visit their on-site store).
See Guernsey and Jersey cows in their natural habitat. On the real farm they are free to roam, eat plenty of green grass and bask in the sun. Those of us who toil in a cube farm are more than a little jealous…except for the milking part.
