The Deep Ellum Brewing Company continues to build out its presence in the Dallas neighborhood known for its iconic pizza and old-school tattoos. Tonight they’ll host their first weeknight brewery tour, which will continue every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
To court potential customers (as if the beer wasn’t enough), the hop heads behind beers like Dream Crusher Double Rye and the Deep Ellum IPA — a beer I see taking over taps across Dallas — have wrangled the Whiskey Folk Ramblers into dropping their twangy alt-country hooks in the beer garden. Food will be available from Buzz Brews.
The beer garden is relatively new. The DEBC had a kick-off party the last day of March with another band and grub from So-Cal Tacos. A number of events have been hosted in the space since. You might wonder, with such a nice outdoor space, why the DEBC doesn’t become a full blown bar instead of teasing us with large cover charges and “beer samples” two hours at a time.
“If we can change the laws we’d love to be a brew pub,” Brand and Sales Ninja Tait Lifto says. But if you brew too much beer in Texas, you’re classified as a brewery — not a brew pub. Breweries can host tastings, give out samples, and talk beer all day long, but they can’t sell you a golden malty drop. It’s a shame. A full of brewpub serving decent beer would fill a niche in Deep Ellum.
