Last Saturday night was a wild one for the arts in Dallas. Fundraisers, collectives taking over venues, art walks and big gallery openings had us pulled a dozen directions — from East Dallas to Uptown, over to the Design District and back to Expo Park.

Just removed from the hubbub, West Dallas was having its own party with Spare Parts. This fundraiser benefits the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group, an organization hell-bent on nurturing its stretch of neighborhood. FWDG’s members have been fighting for bike lanes, widening sidewalks and installing public art. Their tireless efforts point to a not-so-distant Dallas, but until that day arrives they’ll push back against resistance. And that takes money.

At Spare Parts local artists make auction items entirely out of upcycled cast-offs (Fancy words for “trash.”), then they throw a party. This one was held at the brand new Four Corners Brewery, and guests explored the new venue while they browsed the artwork, then they bid on it. All of that dough raised goes towards the group’s mission.

In case you missed the party, we sent photographer Danny Hurley. He made a whole slideshow of the night and we picked our five favorites.
