Soledad O’Brien is a seasoned journalist who has time and again probed complex issues regarding race and identity in America. In her Black in America series on CNN, O’Brien brought topics seldom discussed in the public forum to a broader audience. So who better to speak to budding journalists of color who are ready to contribute their own reportage than O’Brien herself? The Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Journalists features O’Brien as this year’s keynote speaker at the 30th Anniversary Scholarship Gala. The evening also includes an award presentation for seasoned news veterans Bob Ray Sanders of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Clarice Tinsley of FOX 4 news. But this event is not all about the established journalists out there. The event also includes live music, an art exhibit featuring the work of artist Frank Frazier, presentations featuring work by area journalists and several scholarship awards. Over the past three decades, the DFWABJ has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to future journalists, photojournalists and any number of professional communicators. The event takes place at the Hall of State in Fair Park, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 1. Tickets are $100. For more information visit DFWABJ.org.
