What do bongos, xylophones, wild colors and a few crazy dance moves have in common? No, it’s not just another band on the side of the road. Think outside of Dallas, way outside of Dallas. That’s right, the colorful, unique tradition of African music and dance has made its way to Texas, so get on your feet and shuffle step to the rhythm of the drums. DanceAfrica will celebrate ancient cultures, traditions and heritage with Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Glwayen Meta and Brandan Koro. The Sixth Annual DanceAfrica kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., Suite 500. Guests are also invited to shop through the DanceAfrica Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Annette Strauss Artist Square, 2403 Flora St. For more information, call 214-871-2842 or visit dbdt.com.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 7. Continues through Oct. 8, 2011
