In the original story, Little Red Riding Hood gets eaten by the wolf, and the fairy tale ends there. It’s really a pretty scary tale. The Dallas Puppet Theater version, Little Red Riding Hood: The Melodrama, has a slightly different storyline, as Red must stop the wolf’s antics from ruining Granny’s birthday. It’s a much lighter take on the tale, but what the play lacks in terror, it makes up for in songs and dances, written by Foreman Brown, the founder of the Dallas Puppet Theater. There are still some real scares to be found–after all, puppets conduct the whole show. I like wolves. I like red capes. Puppets terrify me with their shark-like doll eyes and movements that look just a little too lifelike. It’s a good kind of terror, though, because I love a good puppet show (though I’d never be caught alone with one). If you feel this way, and enjoy being scared while entertained, this show’s the one for you. The show’s at AT&T Auditorium at the Women’s Museum. Tickets are $6 for children, $12 for adults.
