If last year was any indication, we should probably get the outdoor fun out of the way early, lest we melt into a puddle of barbecue-scented Texan goo. After all, come June, outdoor events may no longer be classified as “fun,” but as “sweatsperiments.” Fortunately, Uptown Ciclovía is all about outdoor festivities in the temperate month of May. On Memorial Day, Uptown Dallas, Inc. brings the car-free magic of the ciclovía (Spanish for “cycleway” or “bicycle path”) event, already popular in cities across the country, to Big D. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a mile of Cedar Springs Road connecting the Katy Trail to Klyde Warren Park will be blocked from traffic, so families and friends—yes, even furry, four-legged ones—can run, skip, bike, skate, and hula hoop to and fro, celebrating the outdoors however they see fit. We’re thinking even mime and rhythmic gymnastics could be options for the very brave. It’s a free event and no registration is required. Check out uptownciclovia.org for details on parking, donation opportunities, and more.
